Hard caps and prepaid balances, by design

Clear prices only matter if the bill can't run away from you. So nothing on Edge starts charging on its own.

Free tiers hard-cap by default. Hit the limit and the resource pauses. It never starts billing on its own.
Paid usage needs an explicit budget that you set.
Compute is prepaid. When the balance runs out, VMs stop and your data is kept.

Do I need a card to sign up?

No. Signing up needs a verified email. DNS, Shield and Assist free tiers ask for nothing more. CDN and Storage use a card on file (an authorisation, never a charge) and only bill for what you use beyond the free tier. To claim the $5 compute credit, you add a card that's verified but not charged.

What happens when I reach a free-tier limit?

The resource pauses. It never silently switches to billing. Paid usage only starts once you opt in and set a budget.

How is compute billed?

Per resource, per hour, from a balance you top up. vCPU and RAM are billed while a VM runs; disk is billed for the space you allocate, running or stopped. If the balance reaches zero, VMs stop and your data is kept.

Is bandwidth really free?

Yes. There's no egress charge on CDN bandwidth, storage downloads or compute transfer, at any volume and in every region. It isn't a line on the invoice.

Are prices different by region?

No. Every rate is identical in every region. There are no premium routes and no regional bandwidth tiers.

Can AI agents use the free tiers?

Yes. The official MCP server (npx @edge-network/mcp) self-provisions a free explore account with no card and a hard $0 budget cap until a person claims it.
