How it works

Move a domain in the time it takes to make tea

Keep your registrar and bring your records. Edge checks the delegation for you and starts answering as soon as it's confirmed.
  1. 01

    Create a zone

Add your domain, then import a BIND or JSON zone file. You can also add records by hand, from the CLI or through the API.
  2. 02

    Point your nameservers

Your account gets its own nameserver pair. Set them at your registrar; nothing else changes.
  3. 03

    Verify and go live

Click verify. We check delegation with a fresh DNS-over-HTTPS lookup and activate the zone instantly.

Included on every account

The DNS you'd pay extra for elsewhere

No plans, no feature gates. Geo-routing, apex aliases and real-time metrics come with the free product.

Domain security

Nobody else can add your domain

Shared nameservers let anyone who knows your provider try to claim your zone. Edge gives every account its own nameserver pair and activates a zone only when both are delegated to you.
  • Six-character ID unique to your account
  • Delegation checked over DNS-over-HTTPS, uncached
  • Zones stay pending until the registrar agrees

Geo-routing

Send Tokyo visitors to your Tokyo servers, on the free plan

Add regional answers to any A, AAAA or CNAME record. Edge matches the most specific rule for each resolver (sub-region, then country, then continent) and falls back to your default.
  • Seven continent codes plus ISO country codes
  • Sub-regions such as US-WEST, GB-SCOTLAND, IN-SOUTH
  • Edit visually or as JSON in the zone editor

Propagation

Change a record. See it everywhere in seconds.

Record changes are saved instantly and pushed to every location in the background, typically in under five seconds. Cut over a migration or fix a typo without waiting on the network.
  • SOA serial bumps automatically on every change
  • TTLs from 30 seconds for records that move
  • Force an immediate sync from the API

Independently measured

Single-digit milliseconds, measured by someone else

PerfOps measures real users resolving through eight major DNS providers every minute. We publish the live ranking as it stands, including the hours when we are not first.

FAQ

Before you change nameservers

Planning a bigger move? Our DNS team will run it with you.
Is it really free?
Yes. Anyone with a verified email gets up to 50 zones, unlimited records and a million queries per zone each month. There is no card on file and nothing to upgrade.
What happens if a zone goes over a million queries?
The limit is soft. We warn you, and we never block resolution. If you are consistently well over, we will talk about a volume arrangement. Your domains stay up either way.
Do I have to move my domain registration?
No. Keep your registrar and change only the nameservers. If you need a domain without a registrar, test.network and ed.ge subdomains are available as add-ons.
Will there be downtime when I switch?
Not if your records are in place first. Import your zone, check it resolves against your Edge nameservers, then update the registrar. Old and new answer identically while caches expire.
Does Edge DNS support automatic failover?
Not yet. Health-check failover is on the roadmap. Today you can combine geo-routing, multiple A records and API updates from your own monitoring. Our failover guide shows how.
