Why Magento on Edge
Give Magento the hardware it expects
Sized for Magento's appetite
Dedicated vCPUs, plenty of RAM and local NVMe keep page generation, indexers and cron jobs quick under load. The data tier on a private network
MySQL, Redis and OpenSearch on adjacent VMs in the same region. Private traffic is free and never touches the internet.pub/media in a bucket
Magento's remote storage module writes media to Edge Storage over the S3 API. Catalogue images survive any rebuild.Thumbnails at the CDN
Let the CDN produce AVIF and WebP variants from Magento media URLs instead of pre-rendering every size per product.Two-tier caching
The CDN serves guest pages, static/ and media from 988 locations. Magento's full-page cache keeps origin pages warm.B2B and multi-store
Several websites and store views on one install and one web VM, or split across VMs as the catalogue grows.

magento-media
pub/media via remote storage
- Compute
Runs Magento, Nginx and PHP-FPM on the web VM; MySQL, Redis and OpenSearch on private VMs.
- Storage
Holds pub/media through Magento's aws-s3 remote storage driver.
- CDN
Caches guest catalogue pages, static content and media URLs worldwide.
- Image optimisation
AVIF, WebP and responsive variants from Magento media URLs.
- DNS
Anycast DNS for each store, the admin and email records.
- Shield
Stops carding bots and fake account creation on checkout and login.
- Assist
Deflects pre-sales questions using your catalogue and policy pages.
- Pulse
Multi-step checks on search, add-to-cart and checkout from real user locations.
Deploy
Magento from your own bootstrap script
- 01
Save your bootstraps and create the VMs
web.sh installs Nginx, PHP 8.3-FPM with Magento's extensions and Composer. Save data.sh (MySQL, Redis) and search.sh (OpenSearch) the same way.
shell$ edge compute scripts create --name magento-setup --file web.sh $ edge compute create --name mage-web --size s-4vcpu-8gb \ --image ubuntu-24 --region london --script magento-setup $ edge compute create --name mage-data --size s-4vcpu-8gb \ --image ubuntu-24 --region london --script magento-data $ edge compute create --name mage-search --size s-2vcpu-4gb \ --image ubuntu-24 --region london --script magento-search - 02
Install against the private data tier
Attach all three VMs to one private network first. Sessions and cache go to Redis, search to OpenSearch.
shell$ bin/magento setup:install --base-url=https://shop.acme.com/ \ --db-host=10.185.0.3 --db-name=magento --db-user=magento \ --db-password=<pw> --search-engine=opensearch \ --opensearch-host=10.185.0.4 --opensearch-port=9200 \ --session-save=redis --session-save-redis-host=10.185.0.3 \ --cache-backend=redis --cache-backend-redis-server=10.185.0.3 - 03
Move pub/media to Edge Storage
The aws-s3 remote storage driver takes a custom endpoint. remote-storage:sync copies the media you already have.
shell$ bin/magento setup:config:set --remote-storage-driver=aws-s3 \ --remote-storage-bucket=magento-media \ --remote-storage-region=us-east-1 \ --remote-storage-endpoint=https://storage.edge.network \ --remote-storage-path-style=1 \ --remote-storage-key=<key> --remote-storage-secret=<secret> $ bin/magento remote-storage:sync - 04
Put the CDN in front
Purge static/ after each deploy so shoppers get the new bundles straight away.
shell$ edge cdn create --name acme-magento $ edge cdn domains add cdn-a1b2c3 \ --domain shop.acme.com \ --origin https://<web-ip> \ --jit-image # after each deploy $ edge cdn purge cdn-a1b2c3 --path /static/*
