Introducing Edge Shield: free bot protection that never shows humans a puzzle
Edge Shield is our free, privacy-first CAPTCHA alternative. It scores every request for humanity, identifies legitimate AI agents cryptographically and never shows real visitors a puzzle. It is live now for every Edge account.
Today we’re launching Edge Shield, free bot protection for any website, built into the Edge platform. It stops automated abuse at the front door without doing the one thing every CAPTCHA does: punishing your real visitors.
No puzzles. Ever.#
Traditional CAPTCHAs make humans prove they’re human by squinting at traffic lights, deciphering warped text or clicking fire hydrants. Shield inverts the model. Verification happens invisibly in the background, and every request receives a humanity score from 1 to 100. Genuine visitors pass through without seeing anything at all. Only suspicious traffic is asked for a single click, and outright automation is blocked.
Your server sees the score on every verification, so you stay in control of the threshold. You can treat a checkout differently from a newsletter form, or a login differently from a comment box.
Privacy by architecture, not by policy#
Shield doesn’t set cookies, doesn’t build a fingerprint database, and doesn’t store per-visitor data. There’s nothing to disclose in a consent banner because there’s nothing collected to consent to. This isn’t a configuration option. It’s how the system is built.
Ready for the agentic web#
A growing share of legitimate traffic isn’t a person in a browser. It’s software acting on a person’s behalf. Shield is the first bot protection designed for that reality. AI agents that cryptographically declare their identity using Web Bot Auth are recognised and verified, and you choose the policy per widget: allow, challenge, or block. You let useful automation through and stop abusive automation.
Integration in five minutes#
Add two lines to your page:
<script src="https://shield.edge.network/api.js" defer></script>
<div class="edge-shield" data-sitekey="es_your_sitekey"></div>Then validate the token server-side with a single call to /siteverify. Tokens are single-use, so replayed submissions fail automatically. Three widget modes (managed, non-interactive and fully invisible) cover everything from contact forms to API-driven flows, and migrating from Cloudflare Turnstile is a find-and-replace.
Everything else in the box#
- Analytics: challenge volume, solve rates, humanity scores, and blocked replays for every widget.
- Shield Examiner: an AI review of your widget’s traffic that flags bot pressure, replay abuse, and calibration issues, with specific recommended fixes.
- Anomaly detection: volume spikes and score collapses are flagged automatically, and escalation tightens until the attack subsides.
- Manage it anywhere: use the Edge control panel, the CLI (
edge shield create), or the Agent API, where your AI agent can add bot protection to a form it’s deploying in one call.
Free. Actually free.#
Unlimited widgets, unlimited verifications, no credit card, no premium tier holding the real features hostage. Bot protection shouldn’t be a luxury good, and on Edge it isn’t.
Create a free account to set up your first widget in minutes, try the live demo, or read the documentation to see how it fits your stack. Already running Turnstile? The migration guide has you covered.
